Palm oil is a natural vegetable oil extracted from the fruit of the oil palm tree. It is commonly used in soap making due to its properties that enhance soap quality. One of palm oil’s unique characteristics is its ability to create a hard bar of soap with a creamy, stable lather. The use of palm oil in soap making has become popular due to its sustainability and relatively low price.
Tallow is a type of animal fat that has been used for centuries in soap making. It is a byproduct of animal meat processing that is rendered down into a creamy, white substance with a high melting point. Tallow is valued in soap making for its ability to create a rich, creamy lather while also being gentle on the skin. Tallow can be combined with other oils and fats, such as coconut or olive oil, to create different textures and properties in soap. Tallow soap is still popular today among those who prefer natural and traditional soap making methods.
Coconut oil is a popular ingredient used in soap making due to its excellent lathering and moisturizing properties.
